AFC BLOOD RED ITALIAN SAUSAGE BURGER© Hamburg is soft-textured. It’s not hard – even when cooked. These burgers replicate that texture. Isn’t it convenient to be able to take some dough from the refrigerator, form a patty and fry it? You can also bake the patties and refrigerate till ready to reheat and serve! Perfectly textured and flavored! Makes 6-1/2 cups burger dough

AFC EARTH BURGER© The everything burger! Grains: barley and rolled oats. Veggies: mushrooms and carrots. Beans: dark red kidney beans and blackeye peas! Contains no fat, no soy, no animal products, no protein isolates! The carrots give it an earthy taste! Makes 8 cups burger dough

AFC VEG BLOOD BURGER© Great news! A homemade burger that tastes and textures just like a beef burger – blood and all! Easy to make. Fry them fresh, or bake and refrigerate or freeze. Taste The Sizzle! For meat-eaters and vegans! I’m lovin’ it! Makes 7-8 cups burger dough (depending on how firmly packed)

AFC WESTERN OMELET CHEESEBURGER© A versatile burger batter for many dishes. A great mix. Chewy, soft, creamy, a little crunch. It’s all there! You won’t believe it. A western omelet is made of egg, ham, onion and green pepper. I also add cheese. All animal-free of course! I know, it makes you happy! Makes 8 cups

AFC WILD PUMPKIN SEED SAUSAGE BURGERS © Okay, this is super easy once you make the rice, and that’s easy too! No-bake burgers. Form the patties, put them between wax paper in a covered container and refrigerate till ready to use. I made 1 batch; next time I’d make 2 batches. Really good texture and flavor. Easy as all get out! Makes 10 burgers

AFC COCONUT LENTIL ANIMAL-FREE BURGER ©  Lentils, green split peas, brown rice, TVP (textured vegetable protein), rolled oats and sweetened coconut take the Original Animal-Free Burger on a different, but equally delicious journey into the world of  homemade veggie burgers! Something a little out of the ordinary always delights! Makes approx. 12 cups batter

EASY HUNTER BURGERS  An animal-free burger for all tastes!  Everybody will identify with the taste and texture of this burger! Makes 11 burgers

GARDENBURGER WITH JACK DANIEL’S MUSTARD SAUCE  Pan-fried Gardenburgers Veggie Medley on a broiled ciabatta bun spread with a Jack Daniel’s mustard maple sauce, and layered with romaine lettuce, spinach, cherry tomatoes and sliced onion! Makes 2 burgers

HOT DOG SALAD SANDWICH SPREAD Chopped animal-free hot dogs, Silken tofu, green pepper and onion mixed with sweet mustard, spice and smoke to create what tastes like ham salad. A variation on an old favorite! Essentially fat-free except for the little bit of fat in the tofu! Makes 3-1/2 cups

HUMMUS VEGGIE HOT DOG BURRITO Charred tortilla spread with hummus, topped with a pan-fried veggie hot dog spread with mustard. Then topped with chopped dill pickle, chopped fresh tomato and chopped onion. Roll and eat! Makes as many as you want

ROASTED BEET BURGERS Large roasted beets, cut into 1/2 inch steaks and served on a pumpernickel bun with veggie mayo, mustard, lettuce, veggie cheese and Manicini Fried Peppers with Onion. A great way to enjoy a burger if you don’t eat animals and can’t find veggie replacement meats where you live. Made especially for you by me! Making 1 burger at a time, from previously roasted beets

AFC ORIGINAL ANIMAL-FREE BURGER © Dried split green peas, lentils, barley, rice and oats mixed with herbs and spices. Refrigerated overnight, then formed into patties and baked. Packed in containers for you to use when needed. Either microwave or dry-fry with lid-to-skillet, to heat and serve. Tired of mushy veggie burgers? Try these! Makes approx. 11 cups batter

SHARON’S POORGIRL BURGER  Baked potato is the meat behind this Poorgirl Burger sandwich! What to do with a leftover baked potato when you feel like a burger? With yellow roasted peppers, lettuce, kosher dill pickle slices, onion, mustard and ketchup on a sturdy burger bun, it tastes and textures like a Whopper! Makes 1 sandwich

SHARON’S POORGIRL HOTDOG I & II When there are no veggie dogs in the house and I want one, this is what I make. I spread a piece of soft bread with peanut butter, mustard, chopped dill pickle and onion, roll it, fry it and eat it. Delicious, cheap, and I always have the ingredients on hand! Makes as many as you want

SPICY CHIKIN’ PATTIES WITH SAUERKRAUT  Pan-fried Boca Spicy Chikin’ Patties served with sauteed sauerkraut on pumpernickel bread with a lemon mustard sauce! A perfect combination! Makes 4

THE FIELD ROAST FRANKFURTER Grilled Field Roast Frankfurter in a broiled bun, spread with sweet relish, then topped with mustard, chopped tomato and chopped onion! Makes as many as you want!

THE GREEN STOGIE Impress your guests. Or bring your Green Stogies to a cook-out! Jumbo veggie hot dog wrapped in cooked collard green leaf (hot or cold doesn’t matter) spread with mustard. Looks like a Stogie! Served in a potato bread hot dog bun spread with dill pickle relish and a stream of ketchup. Top all with chopped red onion and another stream of ketchup!  Makes 1

VEGGIE BURGER BLT  Pan-fried veggie burgers with veggie bacon, lettuce and tomato on lightly toasted potato bread with veggie mayonnaise! Makes 1

VEGGIE CHIK’N BURGER WITH JACK DANIEL’S SAUCE Pan-fried chik’n burgers served on  broiled ciabatta buns spread with a creamy dill pickle Jack Daniel’s sauce, and layered with Japanese cucumber, shredded lettuce and onion! Makes 4 burgers

ANIMAL-FREE HAM AND EGG SALAD SANDWICHES Veggie dogs, tofu, green pepper and onion processed and mixed with spices to create a ‘ham and egg’ salad that no one will know didn’t come from the pig and  the chicken! Makes 6 cups

APPLE WALNUT CHICKEN-FREE SANDWICH SALAD Diced GRILLED CHICKEN-FREE STRIPS mixed with apple, walnuts, onions, rosemary and plant-based mayo with sweet relish. Just like the package says, “Looks, Feels, Tastes, & Acts Like Chicken – Without The Cluck”. The apple and walnut give it a great texture for sandwiches! Makes about 4 cups

BARBECUE SEITAN SANDWICH Pieces of seitan sautéed in Thrive algae oil, then steamed in a barbecue sauce. Served on toasted Italian bread with dill relish and mustard. Simple, easy, great taste and texture! Makes 4 sandwiches

BARBECUE TOFU AND SPROUT SANDWICH  Pan-fried barbecue tofu, alfalfa sprouts, ripe tomato and sweet onion on a whole grain burger bun! Makes 6

BARBECUE CHOCOLATE WALNUT TOAST Toasted country-style French bread spread with Chocolate Walnut Butter, then topped with a quickly made smokey barbecue sauce. Tastes like an open-face chicken sandwich!

CHAR-GRILLED TOFUTTI BETTER THAN CREAM CHEESE SANDWICH  with sweet red roasted peppers and veggie ham!  Tastes like it was cooked outdoors over an open flame! Makes 4-6 sandwiches

CREAMED SAUERKRAUT AND PEPPERS Sauerkraut combined with Mancini Sweet Red Roasted Peppers, Mancini Fried Peppers with Onion, garlic, fennel and Daiya Mozzarella Veggie Shreds, then cooked till creamy! A simple side dish vegetable for roasted root veggies. Can also be served over mashed or baked potatoes, with veggie sausage, as a cheese topper for pizza, as the cheese filler in a grilled sandwich, spooned over potato or cabbage pierogi, or even in a grilled flatbread roll up! Makes 5-3/4 cups

DELIGHT SOY CHICKEN SALAD A perfect soy chicken mixed with celery, onion, carrot and walnuts. Seasoned with sage and coriander. Mixed with fresh cilantro and JUST MAYO. Makes a delightful vegan chicken salad for salad boats or sandwich or on an open-face French baguette appetizer topped with a dill cornichon pickle slice and a spot of mustard! Beautifully executed! Makes 3 cups

ENGLISH CASHEW BUTTER VEG MUFFIN I usually saute onions and peppers for sandwiches, but then thought why not celery and onion? Celery is good fried, so here we have it and it is delicious. Such a simple variation that doesn’t break the bank and it’s readily available, just waiting for you to make the switch to something new but very familiar.  Team it with cashew butter, spicy pickles, lettuce, mustard and a cilantro relish on a toasted English Muffin and you’ve got yourself a sandwich to brag about! Makes 1 sandwich

ENGLISH MUFFIN CUCUMBER SANDWICH  Every vegetarian when first giving up meat, misses the goopy, drippy mess that biting into a juicy burger makes. Nowadays you can replace that burger with a veggie/soy burger, but when you can’t afford that or when you don’t have one on hand, this sandwich fits the bill. Makes 1 sandwich

FRIED SOY CANADIAN BACON SANDWICH  Fried Soy Canadian Bacon with sautéed cabbage and sweet red peppers on dill rye with spicy mustard and Vegenaise. A perfect hot sandwich! Makes 2 sandwiches

FRIED SUN-DRIED TOMATO SANDWICHES I & II  Fried sun-dried tomato is the new soy meat! Has the taste and texture of a meat sandwich! Makes 2 sandwiches

FRIED VEGGIE BOLOGNA SANDWICH Toasted English muffin spread with veggie mayonnaise and mustard. Layered with red roasted pepper, fried veggie bologna, iceberg lettuce and fresh spinach. Sprinkled with fresh cracked pepper. Five minutes from start to finish. Sink your teeth into satisfaction and make your taste buds happy! Makes 1 sandwich

GREEK HUMMUS RUSSIAN BLACK BREAD SANDWICH  Russian black bread spread with Greek-Style hummus and a little veggie mayo. Layered with English seedless cucumber, hearts of romaine, smashed Kalamata olives, a light drizzle of mustard and fresh cracked pepper! Nice!! Makes as many as you want

GRILLED ALMOND BUTTER PUB SANDWICH Perfect blend of taste sensations. Great on all breads – even raisin. So easy, so good. Perfect Pub fare! An ice-breaker, conversational sandwich! Makes 1 or 2, depending on size of bread (square or deli size)

GRILLED PEANUT BUTTER AND ROASTED PEPPER SANDWICH  Pan-fried in extra virgin olive oil and cracked pepper!  A great grill cheese sandwich alternative! Makes 1 sandwich

GRILLED PEANUT BUTTER AND SCALLION SANDWICH  Creamy peanut butter mixed with scallion, whole grain mustard and sesame oil. Grilled in cracked pepper and oil. Served with a dot of wasabi sauce on the side! Makes 5 sandwiches

GRILLED PEANUT BUTTER AND TOFUTTI CREAM CHEESE SANDWICH  Fresh Russian black bread spread with country-style Dijon mustard, peanut butter and Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheese. Layered with sweet roasted peppers, bread & butter pickles and sweet onion. Grilled in cracked pepper and olive oil. Served with an olive stick and kettle potato chips. Makes 1 sandwich

GRILLED PEANUT BUTTER AND TOMATO ON RUSSIAN BLACK BREAD Fresh Russian black bread spread with Grey Poupon Rouge Mustard (cabernet sauvignon and blackberry flavored dijon mustard) and creamy peanut butter. Topped with fresh tomato slices, sweet onion, fresh cracked pepper and freshly ground sea salt. Grilled in olive oil and cracked pepper till melted. Garnish with fresh celery stalk with leafy top and whole peanuts in the shell! Makes 1 sandwich

GRILLED PEANUT BUTTER PICKLE AND ONION There’s not a big melt on this, because we use natural peanut butter – fresh pressed. But the heat softens it nicely, not requiring the ooze factor. Dill pickle, sweet onion and country dijon mustard bring this natural peanut butter to a rustic but lovely conclusion! Makes 1 sandwich

GRILLED PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICH Creamy peanut butter, veggie ham, sauteed sweet onion and mustard on whole wheat bread, pan-grilled in oil and cracked pepper! The new grilled cheese sandwich! Walk on water delicious! Makes as many as you want

MULTI-PURPOSE PINE NUT CILANTRO PESTO Fresh cilantro, pine nuts, extra virgin olive oil and white Balsamic vinegar blended with fresh lemon and garlic! Makes 1-3/4 cups

MUSHROOM PATE SANDWICH SPREAD Homemade mushroom pate with red wine, sweet onion, garlic and cracked pepper mixed with Silken tofu to create a delicious, creamy textured sandwich spread. Can also be served, minus the tofu, as a mushroom pate appetizer! Makes 3 cups

PEANUT BUTTER, PRESERVES & WHIPPED ‘CREAM’ SANDWICH  I was thinking fluffer nutter (a peanut butter & marshmallow fluff sandwich from when I was a kid). This is even better. So light and creamy. A real treat whether you’re low on funds or not! Makes 1 sandwich

PICKLE PEANUT BUTTER TORTILLA ROLL Easy to make, cheap, and fun to eat! Makes 1

Enjoy the brilliance of plants that provide what they were intended to provide – nourishment and pleasure! Makes 2-1/4 cups

PREMELTED GRILLED VEG CHEESE SANDWICH Ever have a problem getting your veggie cheese to melt in a grilled cheese sandwich without burning the bread – and even then many times it doesn’t melt throughout? I solved the problem by forming Daiya Veggie Mozzarella Shreds, carrot juice, prepared yellow mustard and Mancini Fried Peppers with Onion into a premelted cheese! Makes 2-1/2 cups

PORTOBELLA MUSHROOM STEAK SANDWICHES Sauteed slices of oven-roasted Portobella mushrooms served on potato bread with sauteed onions and soy bacon bits with a maple syrup glaze, thinly sliced kosher dill pickle and Dijon mustard. If you like steak and maple cured bacon, you’ll love this! What a sandwich! Serves 4

POTATO BREAD QUESADILLA Potato bread spread with Chipotle flavored Just Mayo and mustard, mounded with Daiya Mozzarella shreds. Flattened while pan-frying till crisp and cheese melts!  Taste the pleasure! Makes 1 sandwich

SAVE THE HEELS OF THE BREAD FOR A TERRIFIC GRILLED VEG CHEESE SANDWICH Years ago, my mother always ate the heels of every loaf of bread, not wanting to waste food. She didn’t require that we kids eat them, only pointed out that they were still bread and good too. None of us wanted them, thinking they were discards. It’s not that she didn’t eat the center slices, only that she wasn’t about to throw away perfectly good food. I changed my mind on that.

SLOPPY MARYS You’ve heard of Sloppy Joes, well now enters the Sloppy Mary! Sauteed onion and Gimme Lean Ground Veggie Sausage, cooked with pink beans, tomato paste, spices, Worcestershire sauce and horseradish till you reach your desired thickness. Serve on a bun with a cold beer, and Sloppy Joe now has a cousin! Makes 4 cups Sloppy Mary Mix

SHARON’S “GRILLED CHEESE” SANDWICH  What to do with the oil from your marinated sun-dried tomatoes, when the tomatoes are gone: Use it to fry other stuff. Pan-fried fresh tomato and roasted pepper strips on Italian bread with Homemade Animal-Free Butter. Textures and tastes like a grilled cheese from the old days! Makes 1 sandwich

SHARON’S MEATLESS BLT  No real meat, no soy meat, just simple, refreshing and delicious! Makes 1 sandwich

SMOKED TURKEY SALAD SANDWICH SPREAD Ground Veggie Brats combined with celery and onion, herbs and spice. Mixed with a cheddar flavored soy cream cheese and Vegenaise sauce. Makes 3-1/2 cups

SMOKEY DILL TOFU SPREAD  With onion and green pepper. Flavored with paprika, garlic, dill and Jalapeno mustard. Served on Pumpernickel rolls! Makes 2-3/4 cups spread

SOY SPAM SALAD SANDWICH SPREAD  There are a hundred different spreads you can make, but this one we keep going back to! Makes approx. 5 cups spread

THE DAVIES-TIGHT REUBEN  Sautéed sauerkraut, fried soy salami, sweet red roasted peppers on toasted whole grain bread with a Thousand Island-type dressing! Makes 5 sandwiches

THE HUNGRY MAN SANDWICH  Steve’s Triple-Decker with Yves deli ham, tomatoes and sweet red roasted peppers topped with mustard on Italiano bread. Spread with Homemade Animal-Free Butter! Makes 1 sandwich

THE ULTIMATE POTATO CHIP SANDWICH  Yes, I’ve come a long way since the sweet pickle, potato chip and mayo and mustard sandwich late at night when there’s nothing else to eat! This ultimate version has wheels. Good any time, but there’s something about the dark that makes me want to make one! Makes 1 sandwich

TOFU CHIK’N SALAD SANDWICH Perfectly cooked veg chicken mixed with celery, sweet onion, chopped radish, Silken tofu and roasted garlic cloves. Seasoned with turmeric and rosemary. Add veg mayo or not. Make a sandwich or serve in lettuce cup as a salad! Makes 3 cups

FOOT LONG CHEEZY SUB A foot long broiled sub roll smeared with hummus, then layered with Daiya Cheddar Cheese Shreds, kumato slices (dark tomatoes), Pickled Roasted Yellow Peppers and Kalamata olive halves. Topped with fresh spinach! Makes 1

FOOT LONG CHIK’N SUB Pan-fried Boca Original Chik’n Veggie Patties on a broiled tough-skinned foot long sub roll with Caponata Babaganoush and mustard as condiments. Layered with Pickled Roasted Yellow Peppers, fresh spinach and sweet onion! Makes 1

FOOT LONG RIBLET & PICKLE SUB Morningstar Veggie Hickory BBQ Riblets layered with bread & butter pickles, arugula, caramelized sweet onion and mustard on a broiled tough skinned foot long sub roll! Makes 1

FRIED ZUCCHINI SUBS  Broiled foot long whole wheat subs spread with marinara sauce. Topped with pan-fried zucchini, fried marinated sun-dried tomatoes, escarole and sliced ripe tomatoes, sprinkled with smoked almond crumbs! Makes 2 subs

MATCH SAUSAGE PRETZEL SANDWICH Make this sandwich as directed and you will be in sandwich heaven! Makes 4-5

MEATLESS PEPPERONI GRINDERS  Fried onions and peppers, sweet red roasted peppers and fried meatless pepperoni served on a grinder roll spread with marinara sauce and coconut oil spread. Light and satisfying! Makes 2 grinders (subs)

ROASTED PEPPER AND TOMATO GRINDER aka Sharon’s Meatball Sub  Has the taste, feel and look of a meatball grinder. It also eats like one! This recipe is an adjunct to SWEET RED ROASTED PEPPER SPREAD that can be found in the starter/appetizer section. We’ll be using it on these grinders. When you find the time to make the spread, don’t forget to make these grinders! Makes 2 grinders

SHARON’S CORDON BLEU SUBS  Pan-fried soy chicken patties with cracked pepper. Layered with pan-fried soy ham slices and heated sweet red roasted peppers on a broiled soft sub roll spread with Dijon mustard and soft Animal-Free Butter! Makes 2 subs

SMOKY PAPRIKA TOFU SUBS Super firm sprouted tofu coated with a smoky paprika dry rub, then baked in extra virgin olive oil. Served on a broiled sub roll with a dry rub and horseradish dairy-free cream cheese spread, fresh spinach and tomato! Makes 4

STEAMY SUN-DRIED TOMATO GRINDERS  Fried onions, peppers and mushrooms with sun-dried tomatoes and sweet red roasted peppers, simmered in a fennel, basil, cilantro tomato sauce. Served in hard-crusted or soft grinder (sub) rolls! Makes 4-1/2 cups sauce for 9 grinders

VEGGIE BLT SUB This sub is so easy, and so delicious! Veggie bacon cooked briefly in grade A maple syrup and fresh cracked black pepper, then layered on a hard-crusted sub roll with lots of veggie mayo, shredded lettuce, tomato slices, sweet onion slices and kosher dill pickle planks will rock and roll anybody’s taste buds! Makes 1

VEGGIE SAUSAGE AND PEPPER GRINDERS  Sauteed peppers and onion with sliced Field Roast Italian Sausage simmered in a garlic, basil and Italian fennel tomato sauce. Served in Italian grinder (sub) rolls. Sweet and hot! Makes 8 cups

TORTILLA & FLATBREAD SANDWICHES

AFC BREAKFAST WIENER ROLL Yes, the wieners are dates! Perfect fit – who would think? And raw sauerkraut – any flavor will do, but the raw? – I like what it does to me insides. Feels good, tastes delicious. Use any mustard you like, I went with ball park, because I wanted to hit this one into the next city! Try the Jif Almond Butter, readily available in most markets. Super smooth! A tiny drizzle of maple syrup makes you want to kiss the tree that bled it for what it does to this breakfast roll up!! Makes 1

BARBECUE VEGGIE CHICKEN ZUCCHINI MUSHROOM FAJITAS  Charred flour tortillas filled with caramelized zucchini, mushroom and onion. Topped with barbecue veggie chicken, then sprinkled with a fresh garlic-parsley mash! Wow! Tastes like you cooked it over a camp-fire! Makes 6-8

ENERGIZER BREAKFAST BURRITO A charred tortilla spread with peanut butter and orange marmalade. Topped with fresh banana slices, raw rolled oats and cashew crumbles. Sprinkled with cinnamon. Roll and eat! Makes 1

FRIED TOFU TOMATO BASIL WRAPS Tomato basil wraps layered with veggie mayo and cheese, pan-fried tofu blocks, fresh tomato, shredded lettuce and a drizzle of mustard! Can be wrapped in two ways! Makes up to 8

GREEK HUMMUS WRAPS Greek-style hummus spread on a charred flour tortilla. Topped with hearts of romaine lettuce, English cucumber slices, Kalamata olives and fresh cracked pepper, then wrapped and rolled! Makes as many as you want

GRILLED CHEESE AND PEPPER TORTILLA SANDWICH Veggie cheese and sweet red roasted pepper between two 6 inch flour tortillas pan-grilled in vegetable oil to perfection! Served with cornichon dill pickle! A little fattening? A little. But it’s so good, and you only want one, right?

Okay, I confess, I had two – Lilly Belle helped eat them though (no excuse). I didn’t eat breakfast and I was planning on no supper. So what happened old wise one? I had a totally fat-free salad, dressing and all (new experimental recipe made in the Fat-Free Lab), then when Steve got home (our Friday night on Sunday night), Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, no potato chips (salted we call them) and a little red wine – I’ll get back on the rest! Makes 1

Served with a side of Dijon mustard and drizzled with maple syrup! Delicious flavors. Complex. Warm feelings of breakfast comfort foods served with rustic elegance! Makes 4

VEG SAUSAGE & PINEAPPLE GREEK PITA Fried Veg sausage crumbles, fresh spinach and fried pineapple on grilled Greek Pita flatbread spread with chipotle mayo and beer mustard! A ‘take it to the bank’ sandwich! Makes 1 sandwich

VEGGIE BURGER SPINACH TORTILLA WRAP  Spinach tortilla wraps take your favorite veggie burger sandwich to a new level! For this one we use lettuce, tomato, onion with veggie mayo and mustard! Makes 1

VEGGIE FAJITA WRAPS Caramelized onion, mushrooms, peppers and carrot matchsticks wrapped in a spinach flour tortilla with dairy-free Swiss cheese, shredded lettuce and chopped tomato! Makes 4 big ones

VEGGIE FLATBREAD ROLL UPS Flatout flatbread spread with a green peppercorn and caper aioli. Topped with steamed fresh green beans, asparagus and spinach. Sprinkled with smoked paprika, then rolled up and pan-fried till browned and crisped. A perfect veggie roll up! Makes as many as you want
