SMOKY CRANBERRY MUSTARD SAUCE
A perfect holiday – or any day – sauce to spoon over bread stuffing, cabbage/sauerkraut or potato pierogi, veggie meats, potatoes of all kinds! It’s so simple, yet so tasty, enhancing anything you put it over!! A must have for the holiday season!
Makes 2-2/3 cups
2 c. jellied cranberry sauce
1/3 c. liquid smoke
2/3 c. water
1 t. smoked paprika
dash of ground allspice
1/2 t. salt plus to taste
In small saucepan, over medium-low heat, melt cranberry sauce, while mashing with a potato masher till pulpy.
Whisk in remaining ingredients, one at a time, till smooth. Bring to soft boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat.
Notes: A light, smooth, powerful, velvety sauce that makes anything you serve it with melt in your mouth. And fat-free too! Adding fat to this special sauce would spoil its unique character. Yes you CAN have the best of all worlds!
